Workshops of the GDCh Division of Environmental Chemistry & Ecotoxicology
"Detection and assessment of substances in the environment"

Joint workshop of the four working groups of the GDCh Environmental Chemistry & Ecotoxicology Division
17-19 June 2024; Schmallenberg

The workshop served to get to know the "other" working groups, for mutual exchange, and offered potential for possible cooperation. The aim of the open-ended discussion was how we can achieve a toxic-free environment and what the working groups and the GDCh can contribute to this.

"Current developments in the investigation and assessment of PAH contamination in urban soils"

24/25 June 2020; Frankfurt am Main
The Soil Working Group hosted a workshop on current developments in the investigation and assessment of PAH contamination in urban soils. The workshop was aimed at people from authorities and expert offices whose task is to assess soil contamination with PAHs. The workshop informed the participants about the development and status quo of the new PAH assessment of soils.

"Highly polar substances: analysis, occurrence, sources and effects"

4/5 October 2017; "Tropicarium" of Bayer AG CropScience Division; Monheim am Rhein

Topic: Highly polar organic substances are increasingly becoming the focus of environmental research. Some of them are also persistent and mobile, which is why they play a special role in the water cycle. Their analysis poses a challenge, so that the occurrence of such substances in the environment is only well illuminated in individual cases. On the other hand, it may be assumed that highly polar substances are of less toxicological significance as they do not bioaccumulate. But is this really the case? What is already known about such substances from the areas of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and pesticides? What is the significance of transformation products? What analytical methods are available for detection? Where do problems arise with highly polar substances?

The aim of the workshop was to contribute to a better understanding of highly polar substances and to the transfer of knowledge.
