/hler Association for Inorganic Chemistry

HomepageWöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry
Who we are - What we do

Inorganic chemistry is a fundamental basic discipline of chemistry, and its boundaries can hardly be discerned in the course of the increasing interdisciplinarity of modern research. In addition to fundamental teaching and research, which has a decisive influence on the understanding of chemistry itself, it plays a central role in the rapid developments in the natural sciences and encompasses a large number of highly topical and forward-looking fields of research with enormous breadth - from exciting molecular chemistry to the design of novel catalysts and materials for energy research to supramolecular and bioinorganic chemistry at the interface with the life sciences.

The general tasks of the Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry are to

  • to further develop the understanding of inorganic chemistry and its perception in society,
  • to strengthen the networking of the chemical disciplines through cooperation with other specialist groups - it works together with the Liebig Association for Organic Chemistry and the Solid State Chemistry and Materials Research specialist group in all tasks, especially on curricular issues with the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry and on specific issues with the Fluorine Chemistry Working Group, the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and relevant GDCh specialist groups,
  • to stimulate research directions and research projects in the field of inorganic chemistry,
  • to promote the subject of inorganic chemistry at universities and the inter-university cooperation of responsible teaching staff,
  • to promote contacts and the exchange of experience among members and foreign colleagues,
  • to provide information about important publications concerning inorganic chemistry and other activities in this field,
  • to build a bridge between school, university and profession.
