SEC at FGCU annual conference

Under the direction of Petra Schultheiß-Reimann, the working group Schule Bildung Beruf conceptualised "ChemieErfahren über Ammoniak". The symposium took place as part of the annual conference of the Fachgruppe Chemieunterricht (FGCU) at the University of Erlangen: Friday 19 September 2025, 10:00-11:55 a.m.

Teachers, didactics experts, trainee teachers and doctoral students met in Erlangen from 17-19 September 2025 to share their experiences and new trends in didactics, see FGCU2025. The SEC also took part in the poster exhibition at this conference with a contribution (see box on the right).

The idea behind the concept of the presentations submitted by the SEC is based on didactically selected experiments for understanding chemical equilibrium. They are embedded in the history of the Haber-Bosch process and the future of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier. The third presentation in particular fits perfectly with the conference motto "Global Transformation".

We were able to attract three outstanding speakers for this lecture series "A chemical equilibrium as a lever for global nutrition and decarbonisation":

  • Ekkehard Schwab: 112 years of the Haber-Bosch process - collaboration between science and industry (discussion lecture)
  • Alfred Flint: Eyeglass lenses, baking powder and soldering stone - from phenomenon to chemical equilibrium according to the concept "Chemistry for life (Experimental lecture)
  • Benedikt Steinbach: Ammonia as the key to decarbonisation - New paths and technologies for an old molecule? (Discussion lecture)
