Who we are - What we do

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Supramolekulare Chemie was founded on 18. It is the youngest specialist structure within the German Chemical Society (GDCh). Supramolecular chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of research that ranges from organic, inorganic and physical chemistry to life and material sciences and has a long tradition in Germany. The research field has grown considerably in importance over the last two decades - as evidenced by the establishment of numerous research networks and the great success of the SupraChem conferences, which have grown steadily since their initiation in 2011; SupraChem 2024 already had 330 participants.

GDCh members of all disciplines and experience levels are cordially invited to join the working group. Membership is free of charge in 2025; for student GDCh members it will remain so beyond that date.

Our aim is to promote science and research through

  • Exchange of information and experience across disciplines
  • Cooperation with other GDCh-groups and our European sister organisations
  • Supporting the next generation of supramolecular chemists
  • Promoting the application of supramolecular research in the industry
  • Promoting the application of supramolecular research in the industry
  • Recognising outstanding achievements in teaching and research on supramolecular chemistry

We pursue this goal by

  • Organising the SupraChem-conferences (2026 at TU Dortmund University)
  • Supporting national and international networking activities
  • Awarding prizes (to be determined)
  • Involvement in the GDCh's training programme (GDCh.academy)

Free membership in 2025 for all GDCh members!

Student GDCh members pay no annual fee even after that.
