Studying is expensive. Not everyone can rely on their parents as financiers and even grandma only steps in with an interest-free loan in a few cases. In addition to scholarship organisations, various organisations also offer loans to students.
Please also note the scholarship for chemistry bachelor students offered by the GDCh (see box on the right).Under "Stipendienplus", the BMBF-funded working group of the Federal Republic of Germany's organisations for the promotion of gifted students has brought together all the foundations that could be potential donors on one page.
You can also use the search function at the Association of German Foundations to find a suitable donor.
The advancement scholarship is a study grant from the federal government and is aimed at professionals with vocational training and at least two years of professional experience. Applications can be submitted before the start of a degree programme and up to the end of the second semester of study.
Studienstiftung des deutschen VolkesThe classic: the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) is by its own account the oldest and largest scholarship organisation for gifted students in Germany. According to its statutes, it promotes "the higher education of young people whose high academic or artistic talent and personality give reason to expect special achievements in the service of the general public". It supports students in Germany and abroad.
The "Deutschlandstipendium" scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has been available since 2011, allowing first-year students and students to apply for a scholarship regardless of their income. The funding of 300 euros per month is intended to support around 10,000 scholarship holders nationwide.
My ScholarshipYou can search for scholarships that match your own criteria from over 1200 funding opportunities (according to the operator). Disadvantage: you cannot simply search, but must first register with a user name, password and accept extensive terms of use.
This information platform is the result of a student initiative by students of educational sciences in Jena. It lists financing options for students, trainees and other young people in training. Readers can find information on student grants, scholarships, student loans, mini-jobs and other financing options.

This free eBook provides a good overview of the requirements for the award, the funding category, amount and frequency as well as the effort involved in applying for the respective scholarship. Not so well known is the fact that some companies also maintain foundations. Bayer AG, for example, awards a whole series of scholarships.
