Who we are - What we do

The Senior Expert Chemists

We, the Senior Expert Chemists (SEC), are mostly chemists who have retired from active professional life and are organised under the umbrella of the GDCh. Most of us have a university education. Most of us have over 30 years of professional experience gained in positions of responsibility in industrial companies, educational institutions, research institutes or public authorities. We make this knowledge and experience available to the organisation. The focal points of our interests are:

- to strengthen the reputation of chemistry in the public eye
- to deepen the public's understanding of chemistry
- to learn and pass on chemistry knowledge throughout life
- to build networks of chemists at home and abroad
- to maintain international contacts

Our commemorative publication 15 years of SEC for download.

Women and men (or others) are of course treated equally. However, for the sake of readability, we use the generic masculine for personal designations.

Public relations

We promote a better understanding of chemistry among the public. We communicate the concerns of senior chemists in the GDCh and society. We promote the networking of senior citizens within the GDCh, focussing on conferences, lectures, publications and excursions. Cooperation with the local associations and young chemists is particularly important to us. more...

Schule Bildung Beruf

We put our knowledge and experience at the service of chemistry education at every age. We focus on lectures at schools and other educational institutions. Internally, we work together with the GDCh specialist group "Chemistry Education". Externally, we have contacts with the Foundation "Kinder forschen" and with STEM organisations such as the Initiative MINT Zukunft schaffen. more...
