Who we are - What we do

Tasks

Founded in 1956, the Nuclear Chemistry Division sees its main task as promoting nuclear, radio and radiation chemistry and the students, technicians and scientists working in these fields. The main focus is on providing information about new results and applications.

The cultivation of the exchange of ideas and experience and the provision of professional stimulation is carried out by:

  • Conferences and lecture meetings
  • Working groups for scientific or technical work in special fields
  • Participation in GDCh events
  • Publications and monographs in the field of nuclear, radio- and radiation chemistry
  • Courses on the safe handling of radioactive substances and radiation protection
  • Active interaction with domestic and foreign committees, associations and organisations in related fields

An essential aspect is the promotion and safeguarding of sufficient research, teaching and training capacity in nuclear, radio- and radiation chemistry. Contact list for teaching and training in nuclear chemistry- as of 12 November 2020 (pdf)

Focal points of work

The Nuclear Chemistry Division of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker represents the scientists and engineers who handle radioactive substances and ionising radiation in their work and use them for research, industry, medicine and teaching purposes. Their activities can be summarised in the following key areas:

Fundamental research
- Chemistry of the heaviest elements
- Actinide chemistry
- Cosmochemistry
- Radioanalytics

Health and Environment
- Nuclear Chemistry in the Life Sciences (Radiopharmacy)
- Isotope Geochemistry
- Radiation Protection and Radioecology
- Nuclear Forensics

Energy
- Repository Research
- Reactor Chemistry
- Tritium Chemistry

Teaching, training and maintenance of expertise
