The future challenges and innovative topics that will be of interest to medicinal chemistry were the subject of an intensive scientific exchange of ideas from 21-23 January 2012 at Seeon Monastery. The two-day "Future Medicinal Chemistry" excellence workshop was organised under the auspices of the GDCh Medicinal Chemistry Division and with the participation of the Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry Division of the German Pharmaceutical Society and the Swiss Chemical Society.
In the monastic seclusion of Seeon, keynote speeches on future-oriented topics in medicinal chemistry provided the stimulating framework for in-depth scientific discussions between the interdisciplinary participants from chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy and medicine. The well-balanced field of participants consisting of successful and aspiring working group leaders/(junior) professors and experienced academics and industry representatives provided an excellent basis for a lively exchange between the generations and the best opportunities for networking.
