CheMento - Information for mentors

As a seasoned professional, you think back to the start of your career and think: I wish I had known that back then! CheMento is the ideal tool to pass on your own experience and knowledge to the next generation of chemists and to further develop your own social skills.

With CheMento you can expand your own network with the high potentials of tomorrow and attract young talent to your company.

Added value for mentors
  • Reflection on your own professional career and leadership behaviour
  • Deepening of consulting, leadership or communication skills
  • New impetus and motivation for your own work
  • Expanding your professional network in science and business
  • Recruitment of junior staff
Who can take part?

Mentors can be experienced chemists from

  • Business
  • Science or
  • Administration

Who are interested in advising, supporting and motivating young chemists in their transition to professional life. You should have at least 3 to 5 years of professional experience. Furthermore, you should have the opportunity to attend regular meetings with the assigned mentee during the ongoing programme (duration: 12 months). The form and frequency of these meetings will be agreed individually.

In addition to regular meetings, other forms of support can also be chosen:

  • Support at the workplace (shadowing)
  • Joint visits to events
  • Mediation of contacts
  • Project work
  • etc.
  • Please note: The wishes and expectations of the mentee applicants are the starting point for the matching process. We create a pool of potential mentors from the mentor applications. We then try to find a suitable mentor from the pool for the respective mentee (see also Matching - who to whom). This means that not every mentoring or mentor can also be assigned a mentee. Not being considered is therefore expressly not a judgement of professional or personal qualifications.

    The mentoring co-operation

The individual needs of the mentees determine the topics of the collaboration. On this basis, the tandems conclude an agreement at the beginning of the collaboration that sets out the content and objectives of the mentoring year together. The form and regularity of the respective meetings in addition to the framework programme are also discussed and recorded at the beginning.

At the end of the cooperation, the tandems hold a final discussion; mentees also prepare a short report on their mentoring year.
