The Division of Analytical Chemistry of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) honours outstanding and independent achievements of committed and talented scientists who are at the beginning of their scientific career with the Division Prize for Analytical Chemistry. The prize is usually awarded every two years at ANAKON and is endowed with an award certificate and prize money of 2000 euros. All members of the specialist group are entitled to nominate candidates. The awarding of the prize is decided by the Executive Board of the specialist group.
The prize has not yet been announced.
The Division Prize for Analytical Chemistry was awarded on 12 March 2025 at ANAKON in Leipzig to Dr Anika Retzmann :
"In recognition of her outstanding and pioneering research work in the field of elemental and precise isotope analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.By optimising and developing new methods, particularly in the field of separation processes for the purification of different isotope systems, Dr. Retzmann made important contributions to the further development of isotope analysis - especially in the field of automation of separation processes, with which the isotope systems strontium, neodymium and lead are isolated in a single run and prepared for analysis using multi-collector ICP-MS. This was the first time that large sample sets were processed with a high sample throughput. She also developed new methods for precise, stable calcium isotope analysis at low calcium concentrations in biological samples based on double-spike thermoionisation MS to clarify medical and clinical issues. Dr Retzmann has published numerous high-ranking papers in the leading journals in the field. The funding and awards she has already received emphasise the quality and relevance of her research work."
The Analytical Chemistry Division Award was presented to Professor Nicole Strittmatter at ANAKON in Vienna on 12 April 2023:
"In recognition of her outstanding, original and pioneering research work in the field of imaging mass spectrometry. With her impressive instrumental and methodological work on rapid evaporative ionisation mass spectrometry, Professor Strittmatter was able to distinguish bacteria on the basis of their spectral fingerprint. Her developments in the field of imaging with desorption electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry led to completely new applications in the pharmaceutical industry, including an increase in sample throughput and sample stability. In addition, Professor Strittmatter developed mass cytometry imaging methods to determine drug distribution in dendrimer nanoparticles with a new metal label. Her highly interdisciplinary work with many cooperation partners has been published in numerous publications in leading analytical chemistry and life science journals and is regularly cited."
The Division Prize of the Division of Analytical Chemistry was awarded on 23 June 2022 on the occasion of the "analytica conference 2022" to Ass.Prof. Dr David Clases
"in recognition of his outstanding, original and pioneering research work in the field of single-cell and single-nanoparticle analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Professor Clases has made significant contributions to the current state of research in single particle and single cell analysis by optimising devices and methods, and in particular by developing and improving software tools for the evaluation of large amounts of data. Professor Clases has also developed powerful new analytical methods in the fields of element speciation analysis and element bioimaging and applied these to current biomedical and environmental science issues. His work has been published in numerous publications in the leading journals in our field."
