Who we are - What we do

The Computer in Chemistry Group (CIC) deals with all aspects of computer-based acquisition, processing and documentation of information and knowledge in chemistry. Its main task is to bring together all interested scientists for the purpose of maintaining and further developing this field of knowledge. It promotes the exchange of ideas and experience and the communication of technical suggestions, among other things through the

  • Promoting computer applications in the chemical sciences as a teaching component at universities
  • Annual international specialist group conference
  • Supporting open access and open source developments in the specialist group's subject area
  • Collaboration between industry and academia
  • Participation in relevant national and international working groups
  • Promoting relationships with related institutions at home and abroad

    Fields of work
The specialist group works in the following areas
    • current developments in the field of computer applications in chemistry
    • chemical informatics including e.g. Docking methods, QSAR, virtual screening, in-silico ADMETox
    • Molecular modelling of chemical, biological and material systems
    • Databases for chemical information (facts, spectra, structures, reactions, algorithms)
    • Methods for processing chemical information and knowledge acquisition (statistics, chemometrics, evolutionary algorithms, machine learning)
    • Improving the management of chemical information
