The Executive Board of the specialist group met with representatives of the working groups (WGs) on 5 September 2025 to discuss the topics and challenges. The working groups reported on online meetings, some of which were very successful, such as the Environmental Monitoring working group with over 90 participants, while the Soil working group is currently looking for new topics to focus on. The Atmospheric Chemistry Working Group is planning another online meeting in December, while the Chemicals Assessment Working Group is organising a face-to-face meeting in Frankfurt in November. During the discussion, it emerged that some of the topics discussed within the working groups are also of interest to members of other working groups. The Executive Board asked the representatives of the working groups to keep the website as up-to-date as possible and also to use the working group's social media account. The Executive Board is happy to provide support here.
On 24 January 2025, the executive committee of the specialist group met for the first meeting of the year at the GDCh office in Frankfurt/Main. An important topic in the discussions was the question of how to make the division better known among students and doctoral candidates. The suggestions centred on how the division could be more present at local universities to present the work of the division and its working groups. The local GDCh organisations could play an important role here. The Executive Board also discussed the Fresenius Lectureship of the FG Analytical Chemistry and will examine to what extent a similar concept would also be possible in our FG. Other topics discussed were the many events that will be (co-)organised by the FG in 2025. Next on the agenda is the German PharmTox Summit (25-28 March 2025; Hanover), followed in June by the ICCE in Belgrade (8-12 June 2025) and in September by the Annual Meeting Environment 2025 in Dessau (22-24 September 2025). The jUCÖT are currently planning the next Perspectives Day and the JUF, which will once again take place on the first day of Environment 2025.
On 17 October 2024, the extended Executive Board of the specialist group met via video conference, so that this meeting focused in particular on the exchange between the FG Executive Board members and the heads of the working groups. In this context, the further development of the FG's communication and public relations formats and the recruitment of new and, above all, young members were also discussed in detail. The outlook for events in which the FG is involved in the coming year is again promising, e.g. with the German PharmTox Summit in Hanover (March), the ICCE in Belgrade (June) or Environment 2025 in Dessau (September), to name just a few examples. Further information will follow via our websites, the press releases and LinkedIn. We look forward to a lively exchange and many personal reunions!
On 3 July 2024, just before the upcoming summer break, the Executive Board of the specialist group met for the third time in 2024 via video conference. The main focus was on selecting the winners of the Paul Crutzen Prize, summarising the events of the first half of the year and planning the second half of the year. The recent PAK workshop organised by the Soil Working Group was a great success with almost 70 participants from all over Germany. The joint meeting of our working groups in Schmallenberg with over 30 participants was no less successful. This resulted in further contacts and cooperation within our specialist group was strengthened. In addition, our LinkedIn group is growing and thriving - so if you are not yet following the group, you should register quickly to receive further information about or from our specialist group. In the second half of the year, we will be holding our "Environment 2024" conference in Giessen, organised jointly with SETAC GLB. An online members' meeting is also being planned (probably in November).
On 19 April 2024, the Executive Board of the specialist group met via video conference. In particular, the further development of FG publications, the website and the LinkedIn group were discussed. It was decided to convert the closed LinkedIn group into a public presence in the near future. We expect this to increase our internal and external reach and presence. In addition, announcements can also reach non-members of the group and be shared more easily. A detailed discussion on the further design of the website presence and the integration of FG communications will take place at this year's annual meeting in September. In addition, possible participation in future discussions of the PFAS think tank, FG finances and the organisation of upcoming FG events (jUCÖT Perspectives Days, Joint Workshop of all AKs, JUF / Environment 2024) were discussed.
On 4 July 2023, the Executive Board of the specialist group met again via video conference, already with a view to the next extended meeting with the working group leaders on 30 August 2023. In addition to the final vote on the selection of the contributions that will receive the Paul Crutzen Prize this year - more on this at the environmental conference in Muttenz, where the prizewinners will present their work and receive their prize - the Executive Board also discussed the future organisation of FG publications. The search for a venue for Umwelt 2024 is also already in full swing. But until then, we are looking forward to the conference and the Young Environment Forum (JUF) in Muttenz. This time, the editorial of the newsletter will take a brief look at the recent ICCE conference in Venice - on the road to a pollution-free society.
On 24 March 2023, the specialist group board met for its second meeting of the year. Topics discussed included the newly elected boards of the individual working groups and the resulting opportunity to get to know each other in a workshop. The Paul Crutzen Prize for 2023 was also discussed. In the area of publications, two waivers have been granted for the special volume of the ESEU and preparations for an article have also begun. With regard to upcoming events, activities for ICCE 2023, Environment 2023 and the associated JUF are in full swing.
On 27 January 2023, the newly elected board of the division met for its constituent meeting at the GDCh office in Frankfurt/Main. Martin Brüggemann, Patrick Riefer and Wolfgang Schrader were newly elected to the Board, while Stefan Hahn, Jan Schwarzbauer, Stefanie Wieck and Christiane Zarfl began their second term of office. Stefan Hahn was re-elected as the proven Chairman, Jan Schwarzbauer and Stefanie Wieck are the Deputy Chairmen. The two newly elected chairpersons of jUCÖT, Viviane Bayer and Dominik Nerlich, were also present. It was nice to be able to meet in person on this occasion after the majority of meetings were held via video conference during the last term of office. A lot of time was spent introducing the newly elected members to the organisation of the specialist group and its activities, but it was also about planning the next events. Environment 2023 from 11-13 September 2013 in Muttenz is currently being prepared together with the SETAC GLB, and the JUF and Perspectives Day were also discussed.
Further reports from the Executive Board can be found in the Mitteilungen of the division.
