HomepageConstruction chemicals
Who we are - What we do

Building chemistry tasks and questions arise at all times in the construction industry, in the building materials industry, in the building trade, in the preservation of historical monuments and possibly for building users. However, in phases of lively construction activity - combined with increased new construction - there are sometimes different tasks and questions than in quieter phases of the construction industry, in which building preservation is given greater weight. As the volume of new construction has fallen sharply in the recent past, we will once again be facing a period of extensive building maintenance measures. Their costs may exceed those of new construction measures. In the context of maintenance measures, construction chemistry, e.g. in the selection of suitable building materials, is even more important than in the context of new construction measures.

The GDCh Construction Chemistry Specialist Group, which has existed since 1997 and has around 300 members, has set itself the goal of pooling knowledge of construction chemistry, contributing to the exchange of information and providing new impetus. It aims to improve the construction chemicals knowledge of all construction professionals, but also to influence legal and regulatory requirements in a technically sound manner.

The diverse tasks of construction chemistry can only be mastered if appropriately trained construction chemistry personnel are available. This applies to chemists, of whom more are needed with qualified training in construction chemistry, to representatives from the fields of architecture, civil engineering and heritage conservation, but also to the many other construction professionals, too few of whom have sufficient knowledge of construction chemistry issues. This often leads to the incorrect use or wrong combination of building materials, which can result in consequential damage and costs.
