Working group 7 - Mentoring, role models

Status quo

Presentation of individual role models, e.g. "SEC Active" (Horst Klemeyer, Barbara Pohl): SEC Newsletter No. 47, August 2025
An initial exchange has taken place with the team leader "Career Service and Job Market" at the GDCh office, Angela Pereira Jae. Exchange with JCF/GECCo (Franz Schütz) e.g. workshop, online lecture.
Prototype of a poster exists (triple jump motif). Eva Wille and Hans-Günther Schmalz take part in the GDCh workshop "Mentoring Quo vadis 2026".

Goals

Many people from the natural sciences retire at the end of their professional career and bring a wealth of knowledge with them. The aim of this project is to utilise this knowledge even further, for the GDCh, for our society, but also for oneself.
At the same time, it is important to ensure that there is a continuous supply of new talent in the working group in order to keep up with the times.

Potential projects

Getting people on board with the idea: presenting role models/examples

Books, magazines, publishing work (retired publisher): Eva Wille reports

Inspiring the little ones for chemistry: Wolfgang Kortmann reports.

Gisela Boeck: History of science and training in chemistry for medical students
Questionnaire for all SEC members: Who can do what in which area, would like to introduce themselves and possibly also act as a mentor for others?

Members of the working group

Speakers: Barbara Pohl, Eva Wille
Hans-Günther Schmalz

Collaboration with GDCh specialist groups
