From steel to technology group

Our 14th SEC Technology Tour. SEC Technology Tour took us to the ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Duisburg on 23 Sep 24. Almut and Peter Staniek organised the tour; thank you very much! For details, please refer to the invitation that was sent to all SEC members and the neighbouring young chemists' forums in the course of June 2024. As with the Freudenberg tour to Weinheim, our invitation was gladly accepted. Almost 40 SEC and JCF members learned about current steel production and decarbonisation using hydrogen as a reducing agent (green steel).

Since Duisburg is not exactly in the centre of Germany, most of the participants travelled to Duisburg the day before and spent the night there. Beforehand, they met at the KöPi, the König Pilsener brewery "König Pilsener pub," located at Duisburg's inland harbour.

After the tour at ThyssenKrupp, almost two thirds of the participants travelled by tram to the Duisburg North Landscape Park.
