Senior experts in chemistry at the GDCh Science Forum 2013 in Darmstadt

Under the motto "Darmstadt: the chemistry is right", the senior chemistry experts also hosted a section at the GDCh Science Forum in Darmstadt (GDCh-WiFo) on 3 Sep 2013. Four speakers represented well-known chemistry-related companies from the Darmstadt area:

  • Prof. Dr Sigurd Hofmann: GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionen-
    forschung: "Neue chemische Elemente."
  • Prof. Dr Thomas Schreckenbach, formerly of Merck KGaA: "Wissenschaft und Kunst: Weggefährten und Schwestern im Geist."
  • Dr. Klaus Murjahn, Deutsche Amphibolinwerke GmbH: "As a medium-sized company on the world market."
  • Dipl. Ing. Gregor Hetzke, Evonik Industries AG: "100 years of the future - (poly)acrylates and methacrylates".

In addition, the senior chemists exhibited four posters about their work as SECs:

Another poster was dedicated to famous chemists who worked at TU Darmstadt, and three posters reported on research work by members of the SEC.

Two of the posters (Cuny et al.) had not yet been published at the time of the exhibition:
  • Technically Scalable Synthesis of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural and 2,5-Furandicarboxylic Acid by using the Green Solvent MeTHFE. Cuny, Darmstadt, F. Klingler, Griesheim
  • Systematic Investigation on the MS-Fragmentation of the Marine Alkaloids Haliclamines: Synthesis of an Intermediate in the Fragmentation Pathway. M. Köck, Bremerhaven, G. Schmidt, Bremerhaven, C. Timm, Bremerhaven, A. Grube, Bremerhaven, E. Cuny, Darmstadt, M. Reggelin, Darmstadt
